Students completed their first CAT a little while ago. The task was to rehearse either as an individual or in a group, choosing their own song, and then perform to the rest of the class. Despite the nerves, a lovely variety of music was enjoyed by all.
They are now preparing for their next CAT, learning to identify how various elements of music are used in music that they listen to.
Students learning piano are at all different stages of their learning journey. Some are just beginning this year and some have been learning for a few years. This term some students are working on duets which are a lot of fun. Each player takes turns performing different roles in the music – either melody and some harmony or bass and rhythm / harmony, before swapping. Other students are working on solo pieces and band music. Some of these students are hoping to perform their works at the Solos and Chamber Music Night on 29th November.
It’s been a busy start to the term for our VCE Music Performance class. Our year 11s have performed their compositions in class and on Friday 4th November, they performed their programs in the courtyard at lunchtime, which was well received by the students and staff who attended. Our year 12s have had an unsettled start to the term, with their performance exams rescheduled to the 12th November, only a few days before their written exam. In the meantime, they were able to perform excepts from their programs at the Fryers Street Food Festival on Saturday 5th November. Good luck to the year 12s for the upcoming exams this week.
We’re trying something different this year and signing students up for our music program in advance so we can hit the ground running at the start of next year.
Any students who are interested in joining the band are asked to come along with their parent/guardian to our recruitment night on Monday 28th November at 6pm in the gym.
You will learn about what instruments are available to learn, what is expected and hear a couple of our ensembles play as well.
Solos & Chamber Night
We will be running our final Solos and Chamber night for 2022 on Tuesday 29th November, at 6pm in the Theatrette. Students will be performing solos and small ensemble pieces that they have been working on all year. The last concert was a great success so this is one not to be missed.
Do you want to learn an instrument?
It is never too late to start learning a musical instrument and we have a number available to hire at school. In particular, we currently have plenty of French Horns, Trombones and Tubas available to hire. If you would like more information, see one of the music staff on level 1 of the Enterprise building.
