Work Experience - Architectus

MITS alumni Timikar, Lilly, Denise, Moni, Serena, and Pauline recently participated in a weeklong First Nations work experience program with architecture firm, Architectus.

This was a great opportunity for alumni to explore the world of architecture and design, engaging with architects, interior architects and urban designers; and, for the Architectus team to understand design from an indigenous perspective, especially the importance of connection to country.

Alumni took part in sessions about sustainability, model making, interior design, VR design, and toured the city learning more about Melbourne’s built environment.

On the last day alumni presented their portfolio to a room full of excited staff. They highlighted what they had learned during the week, what activity they enjoyed most, and what they would share with peers that are interested in a career within architecture or design.

It was such a pleasure for the Pathways team to be able to share in some of the week’s activities.  MITS is so proud of the girls!

MITS would like to thank all the team at Architectus who were so welcoming, and who shared their own career and personal stories with alumni.  We would also like to thank the staff of Kingswood College - Michaela and Sara; and Claire and Georgie of Siena College for your support throughout this journey.

Representative Honours

Congratulations to Adam Minjin, named in the Victorian Storm Junior Touch Football team for the DoorDash National Youth Championship that was held on the Gold Coast from 28 September to 1 October.  The National Championships is an annual tournament featuring Australia's best young Touch Footballers.

Although held during school holidays, Adam travelled from Darwin to Queensland unaided which shows great strength of character.  The competition was fierce with the Victorian Storm placing eighth out of 11 teams.

Adam had a great time, loves his touch footy, plays for the St Kevin’s first touch team, and continues to hone his skills each season.  Well done, Adam.

Year 12 celebrations

The last six years seem to have flown by and in that time, we have seen fresh faced young MITS students grow into such wonderful young adults.

2017 MITS mob Kenita, Naomi, and Kiesha celebrated an end to their schooling with valedictory dinners at Kingswood College and Huntingtower School.

Naomi and Kiesha were accompanied to the Kingswood College celebration by family members who had made the long journey from Ramingining and Tiwi. They looked absolutely stunning! They and their families should rightly be proud of their achievements.  We couldn’t do anything about the weather but those smiles certainly warm the heart.

MITS staff Brad Carmody, Allira Brown, Rhiannan Parker and MITS board member Margaret Webb OAM were in attendance also.

It was a special night week for Kenita Bush and fellow Year 12 students at Huntingtower School as they celebrated their 2022 Valedictory Dinner together.

Kenita delivered the acknowledgement of country, and the event was made even more special with her father (left) and Uncle in attendance.

Kenita also spent some time with the MITS classrom sharing her experiences of school in Melbourne and journey to complete Year 12.

We look forward to seeing what the future brings for Kenita, Naomi and Kiesha and we wish them every success.  We must also thank Huntingtower School and Kingswood College for their unwavering support of MITS alumni throughout their journey.
