Executive Director's Welcome

Wow!  With a burst of energy, and our MITS Gala Dinner returned in late October for the first time in three years – over one thousand days since our last.  On a perfect Melbourne evening (something of a rarity this Melbourne spring – it has been more like a Top End wet!) we experienced many of the things that make MITS great: a connected, culturally strong community of students and alum; powerful student voices, sharing their experiences, their aspirations and their many strengths; and a MITS community rallying around our students and alum, inspired by their journeys.  For those who haven't seen it already, here is a terrific 2min highlights video (created pro bono by Fancy Films).

It was particularly special to witness the contributions of so many students and alum.  From our Yidaki Boys bringing the night to a start, to Jamelia, Amarah, Dwayne and Lexi’s introductory speeches (Amarah’s in her first language of Yolngu Matha), to Kenita’s extraordinary reflections on her six years of school in Melbourne, the growth of our students – and in turn of MITS – was clear.

We are excited that the next opportunity to celebrate our students and hear their reflections is not far away.  Our End of Year Student Celebration Dinner will be held once again at the MCG, on Wednesday 7 December.  This night brings together our Year 7s, our alum, our MITS parents, staff, volunteers and supporters, to celebrate the many achievements of our students in 2022.  It is a fun and accessible night, and we warmly invite you to join us for it.

If you would like to come to the End of Year Celebration Dinner and haven’t already made arrangements to come with our Year 7 team, click here to purchase your ticket.  We are excited to share another special evening with our MITS community!
