From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

Today, Friday 4 November, marks a memorable moment for HSC students across the state, as final examinations are completed in halls and classrooms across hundreds of schools. Our students are excitedly planning celebrations and preparing themselves for life beyond the school gates. It is important that we use this moment to reflect upon the achievements, outcomes, and commitment of all students, and simultaneously recognise the NSW Department of Education's commitment towards improvement in educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Education opens opportunities, it is empowering and impacts many elements of a young person’s life. There is still much work to do in improving educational outcomes for many young people, and at Killara, we are strongly determined to empower all young people in our care. Year 12 students have commenced their signing-out process, marking a significant milestone in their lives. Our school wishes each student the very best for their future pathways.

Stage Band 2 students attended Lindfield East Public School earlier this week with an assumption that they would perform and be involved in a live cross for a TV morning show. Our students had a memorable experience, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to be aired live. Our students displayed flexibility and talent as they performed.

We held our Killara Schools Partnership Visual Arts workshops earlier this week. It was great to see younger students from our local primary schools engage in this enrichment opportunity. I thank Mrs Dixon and Mrs Berry for their commitment to this important experience for our Primary School students.

Congratulations to Megan Guenther our P&C President for her achievement of the DoE Executive Director’s Award. At a ceremony last week, Megan was recognised for her significant contributions to our school, reflective of the values of the NSW Department of Education’s Strategic Plan 2018 - 2022. Thank you, Megan, and congratulations on behalf of our community.
