Classroom Reports

Foundation & One

This week in Mathematics, we are investigating the topic 'Capacity'. After following the Three Bears around our classroom, we arrived at Goldilocks house. There were three different size containers. We had to work out which held the most 'porridge'. We soon discovered that we needed to measure each container, using the same cup.  Our results were different to what we predicted!

I don't think Father Bear would have been happy with our first prediction.

With all the recent rain, we think you need a bucket to measure the downpours.

Stay dry

Years 1 &  2

Notes will be going home shortly concerning some upcoming events for our students on the 17th-18th November:

  • Year 1 late stay which will involve a BBQ and disco
  • Year 2 also BBQ and disco followed by a sleepover at school and local excursion the following day

Once you have the information please contact me if there are any further questions or problems arising.

This is the beginning of the camps program for our students and they are already very excited about it!

Year 2's have been writing and learning about persuasive texts. They are getting better at using “strong words” and lots of arguments to convince their readers. Don’t be surprised if they are winning all the arguments at home!

In Maths we have continued working on fractions and have also been looking at how to find the area of different things.

Hopefully everyone is staying dry and safe in these challenging weather conditions.

Don Valley Camp Update

Hi Everyone,

It’s Sianna here from Don Valley School for Student Leaders.

It is so fun here; the staff and students here are amazing. We have been so busy that I have hardly been on my laptop. I am missing my friends and family but the people here are great; we are all so close. It is so different from regular school. This is what a usual day looks like.

We all wake up between 6:30-7:30 to have breakfast, then we have our morning class (either altogether or in our expo groups) at 9. At 10:30, we have morning tea, then continue our morning class after that. At midday, we have half an hour to get ready for lunch at 12:30, then our next class starts at 1:30pm, which again can be anything. Then we have our rec time at 3:30-5:00. At 4, we have afternoon tea, then at 5, we have DEARR (dropping everything and read and reflect). DEARR is where we read for 10 minutes, then we reflect on what happened that day. At 5:30, we get ready for dinner which is at 6:00. Then we get ready for our night class and then we go get ready for bed at 8:30 with lights out at 9:30. Some night classes are student lead; which the student groups choose what they want to do. Group 1A chose to do Kahoots and neon pizza.

On Saturday’s, it is our recharge day where we have the whole day to do whatever we want and enjoy a movie for our night class. On Saturday, we do spirit spot, where we sit in one spot outside in complete silence and just reflect for about half an hour.

I am having a lot of fun here like today (19/10/2022), we went out all day and built a bridge with wood and rope it was so much fun.

I am really enjoying my time here and have made so many friends.

VCAL

VCAL students were given the opportunity to run the Wedderburn Community Op Shop on Friday 21st October. Duties included opening and closing, balancing cash registers, processing transactions, handling money, giving correct change, customer service, restocking, collating items that are donated and catogorising.

Mr P and Conrad were tasked with modelling some of the clothing available. Conrad also put his handy man skills to the test, installing some blinds in the back office. Olivia, Emily and Crystal redesigned the shop front window to make it look more modern and appealing to customers with a ‘Spring Carnival’ theme. This looked terrific.

Well done to you all on stepping up and taking responsibility to help run the Wedderburn Op Shop.
