Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

All the Best Year 12 Students!

Last week we had a delayed celebration for all Year 12 students and was definitely worth the wait.   All credit must go to the good spirit and cooperation the Year 12's showed throughout the day. They had a catered breakfast and entertained us with some good spirited humour around the school, following with a morning tea with staff. Our Year 12 students then participated and spoke exceptionally well during a whole school assembly finishing with a celebratory lunch. We wish all students the best with exams and the transition to the workforce or further study.   Keep working hard until the finish!   Today students had their first exam.

Long Weekend This Weekend

A reminder that it is a double long-weekend for all students this weekend.  School recommences on Wednesday 2nd of November.  A few students will be in attendance for the VCE Mathematics exam on Monday - all the best!

Flood Watch Continues

Thank you to everyone for their cooperation and understanding of the frustrating weather situations we have been experiencing.  Unfortunately we seem to be in an unusually wet spring rain pattern at the moment which is expected to continue.   Please note that if parents feel that due to their circumstances and location it is better to collect their children or keep them home please contact the front office to let us know.  Please think safety first at all times.  You know your local conditions better than anyone else. Please dont take massive risks and drive through flood water, make your decisions early.   We will continually update you via our different platforms.

School Camps

A reminder to Parents to please return all permission and medical forms ASAP for the Year 3/4 and Year 11 Camps that will be held in Week 8.

Parent Payment & Book Lists

In the coming fortnight all families will receive very detailed information on Parent Payments-Voluntary Contributions, Resources and Booklists for 2023. Please remember major changes occurred this year for Wedderburn College students in 2022. The following changes will be in place again for 2023:

  • Students from Prep – Year 6 will have stationary purchased for them by the classroom teacher.  These resources  will be kept at school and distributed by the homeroom teacher.
  • Students from Year 7 - Year 10 will be provided with a basic individual stationary pack and distributed at the start of the year.
  • Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have the option to request a basic stationary pack or purchase their own supplies.
  • Senior textbooks can be borrowed from class sets or students can choose to purchase secondhand or new books if they want to highlight or write notes in their own personalised copy.
  • The provided resources will be paid for as part of Parent Payment-Voluntary Contributions, parents will not have to deal directly with Wattle Office Supplies.
  • The Parent Payment-Voluntary Contributions will be clearly explained in our 2023 Information Flyer.
  • Students and families will be required to pay for all optional camps, excursions and the school magazine separately.

COVID Reminder (Repeat)

It is still out there we have positive cases recently.

You may be aware the Victorian Government has announced changes to COVID-19 isolation requirements.

This means from 11.59pm on Wednesday 12 October, the mandatory orders around isolation for people with COVID-19 have ended and instead we move to health advice and recommendations for people with COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms.

Our school will continue to adhere to the Department of Health’s recommendations to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for our staff and students.

The Department of Health strongly recommends that students and school staff:

  • who test positive to COVID-19 stay home and isolate for 5 days and do not attend school after 5 days if they are still symptomatic
  • who are symptomatic but have not tested positive not attend school. This does not include students with pre-existing conditions such as hay fever.

Parents and carers are recommended to continue to report their child having COVID-19 to both the school and the Department of Health.

We ask parents and carers to continue to remain vigilant in preventing COVID-19 transmission. Any student who is unwell should continue to remain at home. This is about keeping students healthy and well in our school and reducing the spread of both COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases.

Free rapid antigen tests are available at the school for those who need them.

Parents and carers will be contacted if their child shows symptoms while at school.

Students who wish to wear a mask should continue to do so.

To keep our school as safe as possible, we will also continue to use air purifiers and other COVID-19 prevention measures.

Thanks for your continued efforts to keep our school community safe and well.
