CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week we are identifying the features of living things.


VOCABULARY

Reproduce: The process by which a living thing creates offspring.

 

Shelter: A place that gives protection from bad weather and danger. 

 

Survival: The state or fact of continuing to live despite difficult circumstances.

 

Plants: a living organism typically growing in a permanent site, absorbing water and nutrients through its roots, and using photosynthesis to create energy. Examples include

trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, ferns, and mosses.

 

Animals: a living organism that feeds on organic matter, typically having sense organs and a nervous system so they can respond rapidly to stimulus.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Living things are born, grow, reproduce, grow old, and die. People, plants and animals are all living things. Living things need air, water, food and shelter to survive. Non-living things are not born.

 

Choose a living thing - whether it is a plant or an animal - and research the life cycle of that living thing and how it changes through its life.
