This week in Mathematics the students will be demonstrating their addition and subtraction strategies through the use of problem solving


VOCABULARY

Addition: when you put two or more parts together to find the total amount.

 

Subtraction: The operation or process of finding the difference between two numbers or quantities.

 

Reverse operation: The opposite operation to what you used, e.g. If you used addition, opposite = subtraction.


ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Mark had a big packet of marbles, he accidentally lost some when playing outside. He now only has 18 left? How many did he start with and how many did he lose?

 

Try and prove your answer by using the reverse operation, if you can!
