Sports Update

Daryl Porter, H&PE/Sports Coordinator F-12

With Term 2 nearly ‘done and dusted’, many of you will be looking forward to the holiday break to get away, relax and recharge the batteries after a busy term. Looking back over the Term, we’ve had a record number of students and teams involved in our weekly and representative programs.

Our weekly Winter teams are halfway through their seasons and are developing nicely, in good stead to finish their seasons. We have seen impressive results with our representative sport teams finishing in the top few of their age group and gender competitions. Some have finished runners-up and others experiencing ultimate team success. We have also had students across all sub schools and campuses achieve individual honours in being selected in local District SAPSASA and State teams to compete at the National Championships. We wish these students all the very best in their upcoming competitions.

It is very pleasing to see so many of our students getting involved in sports on a regular basis, playing with their mates and trying a sport/activity for the first time. This willingness to try and persist to improve their abilities in a new sport are traits that will hold students in good stead in future years.

SACSA Volleyball Carnival Results

In Week 7 our Year 7/8 and 9/10 Boys and Girls Volleyball teams competed in the SACSA Division 1 Carnivals. Our Year 7/8 Boys had an opportunity to make semi-finals, narrowly missing out and our Year 9/10 Girls lost only one game all day, finishing as overall Champions! It was good to see students work together, support one another, and use these carnivals as opportunities to challenge their abilities and knowledge in competitive match play. The students' ability to self-regulate, take responsibility, and show pride in their performances, as united teams was acknowledged by spectators and the opposition coaches. Great results are a biproduct of each member’s willingness to play their part for the team, making sacrifices and to refocus after making an error. These lessons are what we hope our students ultimately experience. Thank you to those who attended and offered their support, and to the coaches.

Term 3 Events

In Term 3 we have the following events:

  • SACSA Year 3-10 AFL (9-a-Side)
  • Year 3-10 Netball (including Fast 5s for boys)
  • Year 7/8 and 9/10 Basketball
  • Year 9/10 Badminton (new event in the SACSA Calendar)
  • Nitro Athletics for Middle/Senior School students

To see our squads and teams for Netball, Basketball and Badminton visit the Emmaus Sports Team App page. Well done to those selected and to those who tried-out to continue to be involved in our growing sports program.

We will also have information communicated soon for our Summer Season sports that are held over Term 4 2023 and Term 1 2024.

Basketball Officiating Course for Middle and Senior School Students

On Monday 26 June, we started a new partnership with Basketball South Australia (BSA) to offer Middle and Senior students the opportunity to start their Basketball Officiating pathways commencing the Level 0 Officiating Course. Participating students will be able to umpire various school matches over the course of the remaining Winter Season and, in future, continue to complete further courses.

Other officiating courses and opportunities across other sports will continue to be offered to students as they become known.

Girls Basketball Training Sessions hosted by the Adelaide Lightning WNBL Players

Basketball SA and Adelaide Lightning Basketball Club partnered with Emmaus Christian College to encourage girls to get involved and keep involved in Basketball. This week, on Tuesday and Wednesday we hosted two 1-hour training sessions for our female Basketball players. Students had the rare opportunity to meet and be coached by high profile WNBL players from Adelaide Lightning. We hope that this was enjoyable and inspired our students to pursue higher honours in the sport.  We hope to continue to offer these opportunities for students in other sports.

Holiday Tennis Clinics with Head Start Sport

With Term 2 School Holidays coming up very soon, Head Start Sport are offering tennis for boys and girls of all ages ranging from beginners to advanced players.

See attached flyer for further specific information for age groups and locations.

Donations of unused Soccer/Football Boots

Families who have children who may have outgrown or no longer need their soccer/football boots and they are still in good condition, please feel free to donate them to the College at either campus as we will add them to our stores so that we can offer them to families and students to use for the day or season of competitions.

We wish you have a safe and enjoyable holiday break whether you are going away or staying local!
