Catholic Identity

Mercy Prayer

We pray for the Sisters of Mercy, who established our school and for the priests who have served at St. Mary’s.

It is through their vision,  determination and strong faith that we enjoy the benefits of a Catholic Education here in Mooroopna.

We are proud to be a Mercy School, where the values of love and justice are taught and lived every day.

NEWS REMINDER!

Mass of Compassion.

Our next whole school Mass will be celebrated this Friday, 16th June. We will celebrate the Mass of Compassion (Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus) on this day. The Mass of Compassion is a significant celebration, where we put our social justice values into action and bring food items for those in need in our local community.

This year, the theme for our Mass of Compassion will be “Bring a can, because you can!”

Families will be asked to donate canned food items, such as tuna, salmon, vegetables, spaghetti, fruit and desserts (such as creamed rice) in the coming weeks. Donations of warm winter clothing, socks and blankets would also be appreciated.

The Grade Six Social Justice Team will co-ordinate this act of solidarity and assist in the donations being delivered to the St. Vincent de Paul Society here in Mooroopna.

“Along the Track” article: “ ‘Tis”

In today’s newsletter, you will find another article written by Jim Quillinan entitled,  “‘Tis.” These articles are included in our newsletter each fortnight to hopefully open up the Scripture for you and to help you “see” the message of Jesus in a modern light.

This week’s article is about the novel written by Frank McCourt, entitled, “ ‘Tis. The article provokes some thought about CHANGE and IMAGINATION and is worthy of a read!

It wasn’t a great book and many didn’t like it, especially the people of Limerick where he spent his childhood. They felt it portrayed them and their city in a bad light so, when Tis was published they put up posters and hung banners across the city with one word on them – Tisn’t! “

Jim Quillinan, June, 2023.

Catholic Identity Review.

St. Mary’s will host a panel of CES Ltd staff next Tuesday, 20th June as part of our Catholic Identity Review. The Leadership Team, and all staff, have been focussing on the Catholic Identity of our school in order to complete the relevant documentation and have set a number of goals based on this work. These goals, merged with our Catholic Identity Strategic Plan, will help to outline future steps for our school as we work towards forming a recontextualised faith community focussing on open dialogue and faith development. The Grade 5/6 students were surveyed as part of the Review and a number of students, from Grades 1 - 6, will meet with the panel members to chat about our school on the day.

The findings of the Review panel and our goals will be shared with the school community next term.
