Powerful Story Chats

What is Powerful Story Chats about...?

Listening to stories, telling stories, being interested in stories, creating stories, and talking about stories is a powerful gift for humans. In our story chat sessions, the adults listen to the stories with the students and everyone participates in a discussion about the story. This is how we learn about new words, new worlds, new people, and new experiences.

Each fortnight we will have students evaluation of the story we have been working on and a youtube link to an audio version of the book for you to listen to with your child/ren.

Story Review Time

Term 2 Week 8

“Being Frank”.

Review by Noah and Angelo.

Words or phrases we connected with: being “frank” means being honest. It’s good to be honest. “Serving the truth with more sugar and less pepper” means telling the good part of the truth so it doesn’t hurt people. You can still tell the truth, but in a good way.

What we liked: when Frank told the girl with freckles that he liked dots more than squares. It was nicer than telling her she looked like the Big Dipper.

We didn’t like the part where he told the girl that her singing sounded “shrieky”.

Term 2 Week 6

Story review by Zane, Angelo and Noah 23/5/23

“Somebody Loves you, Mr Hatch”

Star Rating -

Words/sentences that we connected with:

Lonely. We think the message of the book is even when you feel lonely, you’re actually not because God is always with you.

The other message is you should always make sure the package is addressed to you before open it!

The parts the students liked about the book:

We liked how the postman made a mistake, because if he didn’t, Mr Hatch wouldn’t have changed. We also liked how Mr Hatch’s friends and neighbours told him they loved him because it made him feel special and good about himself.
