Dear Students, Parents/Families and Staff,
Welcome back to a brand-new term in Mabo House! We are thrilled to welcome you all back to term 3 and look forward to exciting events and opportunities ahead. Let's dive into some of the fantastic activities lined up for this term:
4 C's Cultural Event: Embrace diversity and celebrate cultures from around the world at the upcoming 4 C's Cultural Event. It's a chance to learn, appreciate, and connect with one another through various cultural displays, performances, and delicious food. Students are rehearsing on Thursdays and Fridays. We look forward to seeing the performances and are very proud of all students who are participating.
Course Counselling: This is your opportunity to shape your academic journey? Course counselling sessions will be held for all year levels at the beginning of this term, where you can seek guidance and explore your educational choices and pathways for the future. Please make sure you make the most of the advice you can access in the sessions and contact your student learning leader if you have any questions or need any support.
Senior School Formal: It's time to dress to impress! The Senior School Formal promises to be a memorable evening filled with laughter, dancing, and creating lasting memories with your fellow seniors. It is being held on September 8th at Merrimu Receptions. We are all looking forward to this exciting event on our school calendar.
VEX Robotics Competition: Calling all tech enthusiasts and innovators! Get ready to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition and showcase your engineering skills and creativity. Make sure you check for communications coming up with the event being held later in the term.
Interschool Sport - Basketball: Show off your sportsmanship and teamwork on the basketball court during the interschool sport basketball matches. Let's aim high and bring home victories for our school!
Importance of School Uniform: We believe that wearing our school uniform creates a sense of identity, belonging, and unity among our students. It fosters a positive and focused learning environment, eliminating distractions caused by clothing choices. Remember that our uniform shop has new items available to ensure everyone looks sharp and feels proud to represent our school. There is now a polar fleece jumper and a school beanie.
Uniform Support: In case a student is unable to wear the complete school uniform for any reason, we kindly request a note from parents or caregivers explaining the situation. Our house teams are always ready to lend a helping hand if there are any challenges with obtaining the proper uniform. Let's work together to ensure everyone feels comfortable and included.
Intrahouse Competitions and House Points: Engage in friendly rivalry and camaraderie with intrahouse competitions this term. Participate actively to earn valuable points for your mentor group and contribute to your house's success. These include a food drive, HP’s Got Talent, and a Poetry competition.
Community Involvement: We value giving back to the community, and this term we are collecting items for a food drive. Let's come together and make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
HP's Got Talent - Talent Show: Do you have a hidden talent waiting to be showcased? Sign up for HP's Got Talent, our much-anticipated talent show, and let your creativity shine on the stage.
Poetry Competition: Calling all aspiring poets! Express yourself through the power of words by participating in the poetry competition. We can't wait to hear your thoughts and emotions woven into beautiful verses.
Values Nominations and House Points: Congratulations to all the students who received nominations for demonstrating values such as respect, learning, working together, community, and leadership. These nominations contribute to your house's overall points, so keep up the great work!
Year 12 - Make the Most of Opportunities: To the Year 12 students, this is your last full term of school, so seize every opportunity that comes your way. Embrace challenges, explore your passions, and make memories that will stay with you forever.
Importance of Attendance: We emphasize the significance of regular attendance as it plays a crucial role in academic success. Our goal is to achieve 100% attendance for all students, as each day at school counts toward valuable learning experiences and personal growth.
Absences and Compass Entries: If a student is unable to attend school, we request a note or an entry on Compass from a caregiver explaining the reason for the absence. This helps us keep track of attendance and ensure the safety of all students.
Ms Louden will return from leave in week 4. Please continue to communicate any questions to Mabo House SLLs Mr Musa, Mrs Beattie and Mrs Grove. Ashley and Mrs Bellgrove will also be there to provide any supports.
Let's make this term a memorable one with determination, enthusiasm, and support for one another. We wish you all the best in your academic endeavors and extracurricular activities!
Warm regards,
Andrea Bellgrove
