Music

Current Year 7 Music students are continuing to develop an appreciation of music styles through the current Film Music topic. Students are learning about the functions of music in films and are currently performing an arrangement of Eye of a Tiger from the Rocky film. Students are learning about rhythmic unison, texture types and major/minor tonality.

The Year 8 Music topic, Rock/Pop has culminated with a student-centred small group project modelled on the MTV format. Students chose a band or artist to research and interview through the IT platform of a recorded live video or podcast in the style of an MTV interview. Students had to research a past tour or album and include an analysis of a song and a live performance in their interview. Students will present their videos/podcasts to their peers in the last week of school this term.

Year 9

Year 9 have started listening to music and analysing the concepts of music. They recently completed a listening task on duration, pitch and texture. Examples of songs that were looked at included Eagle Rock (Daddy Cool) & Beds Are Burning (Midnight Oil).

Year 10 Music students have immersed in the music of Fleetwood Mac during the term. Through a class performance of The Chain, students gained an understanding of how dynamics and expressive techniques created varied moods in the song.

Year 11

Year 11 have completed their first Viva-Voce, which is a discussion on a musical topic of their choice. Some topics covered included musical theatre, Billy Joel and the music of John Williams. Year 11 are also getting ready to present their first performance assessment.

Year 12 Music students have been developing their performance repertoire for the HSC practical exam which will be held towards the end of next term. Students are performing a variety of Rock and Blues songs and their performance is being eagerly awaited.
