Foundation Unit

Hello lovely Foundation families and welcome back for Term 3!

It has been lovely to see everyone’s smiling faces and hear all the exciting things that have happened over the school holidays!

We are now settling back into school mode, and have begun learning about some new topics. In Literacy, the Foundation students have started to learn about different craft techniques authors use - with a focus on Aaron Blabey and how he uses rhyme and humour to entertain his readers. This has proven to be very popular, as he is the author of books like Pig The Pug, Thelma the Unicorn and Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas (all crowd favourites!).

We will be learning about a different writer’s craft technique that lends itself to poetry each week, as this is the genre students will be experimenting with in their writing.

In Numeracy, we have begun to revisit our ‘Friends of Ten’ facts. ‘Friends of Ten’ are pairs of numbers that when added, equal a total of 10. This will lead us into our new topic of addition, which lots of students are very keen to learn about.

Finally, we are getting very close to being at school for 100 days! This means that our 100 Days of School celebration is only a few weeks away. It will be Friday 28th July.

We are asking students to join in the fun by dressing up like a 100-year-old version of themselves. There will be lots of 100 themed activities on the day, and it is always a highlight of our Foundation year. Let the countdown begin!
