French News:

Quoi de neuf?

Bonjour tout le monde! Hello everyone.

This week in French we have been discussing ‘La Fête Nationale’, known in English as Bastille Day. The 14th of July, or ‘Le Quatorze Juillet’, is a national holiday in France commemorating the French Revolution. Festivities include a massive military parade down the Champs-Élysées in Paris, dance parties in fire stations (Les bals des pompiers) and fireworks (feux d’artifices) all over France, but most notably in Paris at La Tour Eiffel.

Meanwhile at WPS we have much to celebrate also, as five of our Year 4 students have made it into the finals for the Berthe Mouchette poetry competition. The following students are congratulated for achieving the highest mark of ‘Brilliant’, or 20/20, for their poetry recital:

  • Josseline CU2
  • Emma CU1
  • Lucian CU1
  • Nyah CU1
  • Ally CU1

These students have been invited to compete against all the other finalists in the state with a second recital of the poem. Bonne chance/Good luck!

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the support of the Association of French Teachers Victoria, who completely subsidised the cost of entry into the competition.
