Principal's Report

Jane Briffa | Principal

Dear Skye Families,

Welcome back to Semester 2!

The holidays already seem like a distant memory. The school is humming with so many activities already taking place. Since our return last week, we have had the Year 5 camp to Sovereign Hill, an incursion with Professor Bunsen, gymnastics team try outs, Gr 3/4 Hoop-time competitions and the footy grand final and PJ/Beanie day this week. Please remember to keep an eye on the school calendar so that you don’t miss any of the many upcoming events that are on this term.

This week at assembly I set a challenge for our students to see if they knew where they could find our School Vision Statement. In 2018, we held a parent forum, conducted surveys, collaborated with students and staff and eventually worked with the School Council to write a School Vision Statement that captured our core purpose at Skye Primary School. Our vision statement can be found on the school website. I encourage you to have a look and discuss what it means with your children. We will be filming a short presentation on the Vision Statement for Skye News, which is shown at assembly every Monday Morning. Please remember that parents, carers and family members are welcome to join us at assembly whenever you have time to do so.

Just as our School Vision Statement suggests, learning is lifelong. Unfortunately, I will be missing in action over the next fortnight but for good reason. I am delivering a presentation at a Regional Forum for Network Chairs and SEILs (Senior Education Improvement Leaders) in Berwick, Chairing the Northern Peninsula Principal Network Meeting at Patterson River, completing a professional learning program at Moorabbin around Rethinking Assessment (with Tim) and I am on a Principal Interview panel for another school. While these system projects take me out of the school, I always learn a lot that I can bring back to Skye to ensure that we are always on top of the latest initiatives and engaged in best practice. I just wanted to assure you that I am not swanning around drinking coffee when I am not onsite (even though that's what some very unkind teachers suggest). Mr Bernau and our leadership team keep everything running beautifully in my absence. We are very lucky to have such a strong and high performing team of professionals at Skye PS.

We look forward to seeing you at some of the community events that are taking place in coming weeks. Wishing everyone a wonderful fortnight!
