Connect: Year 6
Welcome Back to Term 3, Year 6!
I hope that you enjoyed spending the extra time together and I’m sure that all of the students of Year 6 were a magnificent help around the house with all that extra time on their hands! The days are getting longer and we are getting more and more clear weather as we move towards spring!
On Friday the Year 6 Girls participated in the Annual Girls Footy Gala Day and while we came up against some pretty stiff opposition, we acquitted ourselves well and had a narrow victory over Banyan Fields.

The Next Fortnight of Learning
Mathematics
Over the next two weeks, we will be continuing on with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using decimals and we’ll also be converting units of length.
Maths is everywhere and it’s a great idea for instance to ask questions of your children regarding “How much would it cost if I get 50 litres of petrol?” as you drive past a service station or “Tell me what you think this shopping will cost us by rounding each item up or down to the nearest dollar as we are going around.”
Literacy
In the next couple of weeks we will be looking at figurative language and how we can use it in our writing to make it more interesting. Australians, in particular, use a great deal of figurative language in their everyday speech and it is one of the things that overseas travellers find the most difficult to ‘wrap their head around!’
Inquiry
We have started looking at Electricity and Electrical Circuits and thinking about where we actually get our energy from and what forms of energy are actually renewable and which aren’t.
We will be making our own houses with two working lights. Sounds difficult for Year 6? Well, we are making them out of shoeboxes and that's where we need your help. Please send any spare shoeboxes in with your children so we can accomplish our mission!
Wellbeing
Our Term 2 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Gender Identity.
