What's happening in our classrooms?
Literacy:
Students began our unit on Historical Fiction and are learning about the features of Historical Fiction texts. Students will be exploring Historical fiction through the use of our class novel and mentor texts around Eureka Stockade. We will be practicing writing historical texts such as diary entries or letters from the perspective of a person living during the Gold Rush.
Numeracy:
Students are continuing on with their learning on Multiplication and are expanding their knowledge on various written strategies to solve problems including; the area model, lattice method and using the Multiplication algorithm. Students will be practicing using multiplicative thinking to solve worded problems.
Over the next two weeks students will be exploring angles by identifying and making acute, obtuse, right, straight, reflex angles and revolutions. Students will also be learning how to use a protractor to correctly draw and measure them.
Inquiry:
We have begun our Inquiry Unit on "Earth and the Solar System." Students have been busy learning about the planets in our Solar system including which planets are inner and outer planets. They will be exploring the dwarf planets, moons, comets and asteroids. Students have enjoyed working with different students from the cohort to research information.
Wellbeing:
During our Wellbeing lessons students will be introduced to the concept of positive and negative self-talk and the influence self-talk has on our actions and emotions. This term students will be continuing to work on the Zones of Regulation focusing on gaining awareness on how they look and feel in each of the 4 Zones. Students will be working on identifying and verbalising which zone they are in.
Celebration of Learning:
Year 5 Camp was a success and students learnt lots of interesting facts about life during the Eureka Stockade.
Lacey- "I learnt that only 4 people could fit into the lift that went down into the mines"
Tegan- "I enjoyed walking around and looking at the shops and how they decorated them"
Mitch- "I learnt that some people would leave their family and everything they had to go and find gold. Sometimes they didn't even find gold"
Jaxon- "My favourite part of camp was eating toffee apples!"
Raf- "I enjoyed panning for gold. I got a lot of gold"
Have a wonderful week!
