Connect: Year 4

Dear 4A and 4B families,

Welcome to Term 3! The students have transitioned into this term beautifully, we are so proud of them!

We have some exciting things happening this term:

Tuesday 25th July- Hot Chip Day

Thursday 27th July- Respectful Relationships Open Afternoon

Monday 7th - Friday 11th August- Science Week

Monday 19th - Friday 23rd August Book Week

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Reading

  • Unpacking persuasive texts
  • Identifying persuasive devices and explaining their impact on the reader
  • Scanning for key information
  • Starting a new text for Book Club
  • Continued to build our skills with the Book Club roles

Writing

  • Constructing different types of topic sentences from a given topic e.g. exclamation, subordinating conjunctions or appositives.
  • Writing introduction paragraphs to go with our signal outline paragraphs from last term.
  • Continue to build our Writer's Notebook seeds to support our future writing pieces.
  • Touch typing begins!

Maths

  • Building our tool kit of strategies for solving division problems e.g. using arrays, missing number strategy or short division
  • Investigating different types of angles

Inquiry

This term, our Inquiry focus  is 'Types of Forces'. By understanding different types of  forces and how they are exerted, our students can notice them in their daily lives and use them when creating solutions to problems.

Wellbeing

Students will be continuing to work on the Zones of Regulation focusing on gaining awareness on how they look and feel in each of the 4 Zones. Students will be working on identifying and verbalising which zone they are in.

Reminders

  • Students are to read for 20 minutes a day.
  • Daily practice of multiplication and division facts to build automatic recall.
  • Drink bottles are to be filled with water.
  • As winter has arrived we advise, if you can, to pop a spare change of school clothes in your child's school bag in case during break they have a slip or are muddy from their game of AFL/soccer.

A Celebration of Learning

What a fantastic way to kick of our Science term and our Inquiry topic with a visit from Professor Bunsen.
