Literacy: For the first fortnight of Term Three we have looked at 'questioning' in Reading. We have learned the difference between 'thin' and 'thick' questions and how asking meaningful questions can positively impact our understanding. The book 'Dragon Post' was our mentor text and this lead to us learning how to properly write a letter, either for social or business reasons! Moving forward, the children will be enjoying a big unit based around fairy tales. This will allow us to focus on 'predicting' and how it is important to do so before, during AND after reading. In Writing we will use fairy tales to help inspire our narrative writing.
Maths: We hit the ground running in the first two weeks with multiplication and division! The students learned a number of techniques to solve problems and then we have encouraged using those strategies to apply them to multi-step tasks. Throughout the next fortnight, we will be looking at the topic of 'time'. This is the perfect opportunity for your child to practise reading both analogue and digital clocks to reinforce the learning we will be doing at school!
Inquiry: We will be starting our Inquiry unit in the next week which is Liquids and Solids. This unit will allow our students to explore the concepts of the states of matter by doing a variety of experiments! Professor Bunsen came and visited Skye Primary, and goodness did he have the kids engaged! They explored a variety of topics and even the teachers were captivated!
Wellbeing: We are looking forward to hosting you all next week for our open afternoon at 2:15pm on Thursday. We will be running a Respectful Relationships session with you all! Invitations came home late last week, please let us know if you require further information.
The students LOVED putting these amazing lapbooks together over the last couple of weeks of Term Two. Some of these have come home and no doubt you will know that they are treasured. They turned out amazing! Mrs Briffa and Murphy came down to inspect them, and from the look on Murphy's face... she approved!
We hope you have a lovely week!
