Welcome Back to Term 3

So far, we have seen the Year 12 students come back with the drive to achieve units of competence and tracking their progress to get everything complete in the next 9 weeks, which is outstanding. An email has been sent out to all students who have not yet completed the required Weekend duties, some students have booked them in, and others haven't. In Year 11 and 12 it is a requirement to complete weekend duty for the core unit of competency AHCWRK204 - “Work Effectively in the Industry”, which is required to complete Certificate II in Agriculture. Please don't leave this too late or you will be coming back in Term 4 or not achieving your Certificate II in Agriculture.

On Wednesday the 19th of July, several Certificate III in Agriculture students finished the majority of our calf marking program.  This was an opportunity for them to complete one of the practical components for the Identify and Draft Livestock unit of competency.  The process involved drafting the calves from their mothers, quietly and efficiently moving the calves around the yards and guiding them into the crush for marking.  Then they undertook ear tagging, earmarking, NLIS tagging, vaccinating, weighing, and recording of each individual calf.

The students worked well as a team and the calves were marked in good time with minimal stress.  There was even time to run them through the yards again to rebuild their confidence for next time they are yarded.

A few photos were taken by the students (warning – there is some blood!) and a few short instructional videos were made to add to our learning material.

This is paddock 8 with a mob of sheep and lambs that was just marked and put into Timok vetch that was seeded on the 31March 2023.
