M9S Melbourne Museum Excursion

On the 8th of May, our Year 9 SEAL class went to the Melbourne Museum. This was done for our Humanities and Science studies this year. While in the museum, we went to exhibits on Australia’s Gold Rush history, Indigenous history, and the 600 million years of evolution in Victoria, filling out worksheets and having a break stop at the museum’s café.

As we entered the ‘600 million years’ museum, dinosaur models decorated the entrance, and there were plenty of interactive displays with which we could engage. There were also many models in the exhibition for Australia’s history, with both miniature and life-sized recreations of housing and towns from the Gold Rush.

Another highlight was our visit to Melbourne Central for which we went to buy food, and also our long train rides to and from the city, where we could read, talk, and listen to music.

Overall, as an academic learning experience, it was nice to be able to get out of the classrooms and be able to walk around, as well as learn with a different structure. Our class found that the day was an exciting and much needed change, especially as our end-of-semester exams approach.
