Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

Students at Donvale PS are provided with various engaging learning opportunities carefully designed to cater to their needs. We value excellence in learning, and our teachers dedicate significant time and effort to expanding their knowledge of the curriculum and investigating innovative teaching and assessment practices ensuring that they meet all students' educational and well-being needs. This work culminates with teachers assessing your child's progress against the Victorian Curriculum and writing a   midyear report for every student.

Semester one reports will go live this afternoon on Compass, giving you the opportunity to gain further insight into the curriculum content delivered and your child's progression and growth in their learning. Please open and read the midyear report with your child to discuss and celebrate their learning achievements as a family. It is essential that students are part of this process so that they take ownership and responsibility for their learning.

Further to this, please book a meeting with your child's teacher next week as per the Compass newsfeed sent out yesterday outlining the dates and times for parent-teacher interviews. Parent-teacher interviews provide invaluable information about your child's learning progress and how you can further support their learning in partnership with the school.

Every Day Counts

You will find a record of your child's absences for the semester on the report's Personal & Interpersonal Development page. At Donvale PS, every day counts regarding your child's learning growth and emotional and social development. Similarly, being late to school significantly impacts your child's learning and mental wellbeing. Students often feel anxious arriving late to school as they miss out on those valuable social interactions before the bell rings with their friends and miss out on necessary teacher instruction. These instructions must be repeated, often resulting in undue stress for your child as they are trying to process instructions whilst dealing with the anxiety of being late. As a school, we support you and your family with attendance and chronic lateness. Mrs Rassias and I are available to meet with you to chat about how you can improve your child's attendance and arriving at school on time.

Please view the info graph below highlighting the importance of regular attendance and arriving on time to school.

I wish you all a restful and relaxing holiday and I look forward to seeing you in Term Three.

Warmest regards,

Larissa Vesdrevanis
