Principal's

Report

 Ms Jodi Niedermayer

Dear Parents, Carers, students and community,

In a flash, Term 2 comes to an end! It is unbelievable to think I have now been at Oak Flats Public School for a term. I feel extremely fortunate about the welcome I have received from students, staff and the community since starting at the beginning of the term. The support I have received across the board has been greatly appreciated. I feel extremely fortunate to work alongside such dedicated, kind and talented staff, who go above and beyond to provide our students with so many learning opportunities, in and outside the classroom.

Student Report

This week, our students from Preschool to Year 6 brought home their Semester 1 student report. The reports draw together each students’ academic achievements, their next steps in their learning, as well as information about their commitment to learning and social development. In addition, the report provides information about the number of days your child has been absent, which can impact significantly on progress, confidence and peer relationships.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

NAIDOC Week

National NAIDOC celebrations are held in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Oak Flats Public School will be celebrating NAIDOC Week throughout Week 1 of Term 3. We invite our community to join us on Wednesday, 19 July.

Education Week

Education Week 2023 will be held from Monday, 31 July to Friday, 4 August (Week 3, Term 3). This year’s theme is 175 years of public education in NSW and focuses on learning from our past, celebrating our achievements and embracing the future with confidence.

Parents and carers are invited to our whole school celebrations on Wednesday, 2 August beginning with an assembly showcasing performances from across our school, open classrooms and a picnic lunch. In addition, the Book Fair will be open in the library throughout the week.

Parent Support Group

Our Learning and Support Team will be hosting an afternoon tea for parents and carers of children with diverse needs on Tuesday, 25 July at 2pm. This is aimed at developing a support network and access to information for people who have children with a disability and/or additional needs. As we know, parenting is a tough gig, but having a child with additional needs, can bring unique joys and different challenges. Our first catch up will be an informal chat, where we can discuss what support, information or opportunities would meet your needs.

For planning purposes, please phone or email the office to RSVP. If you are not able to attend at the scheduled time but would be interested in connecting or receiving further information, please also let the office know so we can be in touch with you.

Back to School Vouchers

The Service NSW Back to School Vouchers expire at the end of this week. If you have any remaining vouchers, these can be used to purchase uniforms, pay for upcoming excursion or pay any remaining fees. Please contact the office for further information.

Happy Holidays

Term 2 concludes on Friday, 30 June for our 2-week school holiday period. Our students return to school on Tuesday, 18 July 2023. Our staff will be involved in specific professional learning the day prior to our students returning.

On behalf of our staff, we wish our students and families a fabulous mid-year break. I also extend this to our fabulous, hard-working staff. I look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed, ready for another fantastic term.

Kind regards

Jodi Niedermayer
