Year 7 Humanities – Edenhope Water Treatment Plant Visit

"On Wednesday 24th May, the Year 7 Humanities class visited the Edenhope Water Treatment Plant (run by GWM Water) to learn more about our water in Edenhope, as part of our studies.

We learnt about where the water comes from initially and the processes and treatments it goes through before it can be used, which is a lot. However, these processes have changed a lot, as we no longer get the water from Lake Wallace and instead it comes from bores just north of Edenhope. We learnt that the township of Edenhope uses half a megalitre of water every day, which is a lot for a small community! We saw where the water is stored and we watched it going through its cleaning and purifying processes, so that it is fit to be used in our homes.

Did you know that the water we drink in town is cleaner and purer than rainwater due the processes it goes through, which was pretty impressive!

We study water as part of Year 7 Humanities and it was great to learn more about the water that we use every day. Thank you to Michael and GWM Water for allowing us to learn more about this interesting process."

HoL News

The Hands on Learning (HoL) program at our school allows students to apply their skills in other areas. HoL allows school students to participate one day per week in various practical projects, which may be within the school or outside in the local community.

Some activities include building a wooden shelving units for the community swimming pool shed which got replaced after the storms last year, and they continued with their landscaping projects around the school. The have been busy clearing a new place to belong around the AG and mechanics buildings.

We actively seek involvement in community project work which is a great opportunity to foster positive attitudes towards the local community, which teaches the students the value of shared goals and purposes which are the fabric of our society.

In metal work this year the students made a metal dustpan which was joined using a spot welder. They also did some MIG and oxy acetylene welding using a number of different metals.

In wood work this year the students made coffee table designs, below is Chloe’s, and also had time to make a lollie dispenser.
