Government Announces $13.1 Million ‘Future Funding’ for Edenhope College
I’m excited to announce Edenhope F - 12 College has been granted Future Funding, to plan for refurbishment and upgrades across the school. The exciting part of this grant will be students, parents, staff and community members will get their vision included on what we see as important in the future of our learning environment.
Future Funding grants are part of a 25-year rotation that the Education Department bestows upon all government schools. It’s deemed within the department that after an original build, 25 years previous, the school receives ‘future funding’ to help modernize the learning environment.
A survey to students, parents, staff and community members, to collect their thoughts/visions will be completed by the final week of this term, and the report will be tabled with school council at their next meeting for endorsement. The report will then be presented to potential architects to begin planning of phase 1. Building/refurbishment would begin in the next couple of years.
Victorian State Side
Buzz Brennan from Year 10, has made the U16 State Hockey Side for School Sport Victoria. Buzz has been travelling down to Melbourne for tryouts over the last two months and was advised last Thursday that he has made the side. This is no mean feat for a student who is the only rural member of the team. All other students play in metropolitan Melbourne leagues. The School Sports Australian Championships will be played from 12th August to 19th August in Adelaide, South Australia.
Congratulations and hope you get a real ‘Buzz’ out of the experience. Edenhope College and community will be barracking for you!!
Parkrun Saturday Morning
Edenhope College provided the volunteers for Lake Wallace Park run on Saturday morning. There was a really good turnout on an extremely cold morning, with the wind cutting across the lake. 38 people participated.
One of the highlights we had was an AFL boundary umpire from the Port Power/Bulldogs game on the Friday, ran our park run and he come first in just a little over 19 minutes. Having a chat with him afterwards he said he never sleeps after a night AFL game so he drove to Stawell and decided to call in to the Edenhope parkrun on his way to see family in Adelaide.
One of the favourite things on Saturday was the fire pit that we had at the finish line and the toasted marshmallows that everyone was able to partake in. It was a fantastic effort and thank you to all the volunteers who helped.
Please any chance you get to volunteer or participate in the local parkrun (8am Henley Park each Saturday), come and join in. The park run is a fantastic social outing gives you the chance to catch up with people in a volunteering role, you don’t have to walk or run or you simply participate and get the benefits of exercise and a chat. Just look up Lake Wallace Parkrun on Facebook or like I said turn up at 7.45am on a Saturday morning at Henley Park.
Parents & Friends Group
I’m excited with our Parents & Friends group which has swelled to over 10 members helping to raise the parent profile within our school. Parents and Friends have organized social events/raising money to help the school be better equipped to engage our students (their kids). Contact the school if you are Interested in being on the parents and Friends committee.
Attitudes to School Student Survey (ATOSS)
Last week the students did their annual Attitudes to School Student Survey. A couple of areas we’re looking to grow is student agency, their voice within the school. We’ll also be looking to raise student engagement within their learning. Moving forward we’ll have small student surveys each term. From those student surveys we will continually check in. The overall aim is to have students more confident in their learning and more resilient in their well-being.
