Simple Furniture Construction

Over the past 5 weeks, students have been investigating and designing the coffee tables they are producing. They have drawn Isometric and Orthogonal designs, completed a detailed cutting list and a production plan before they started construction.

Advanced Metal

This week we had the pleasure of Mark Hooper from Jaymar Engineering come and present to the students in Advanced Metal. Mark spoke about the evolving nature of the trades industry and how it continues to be viewed as a very good first option for school leavers. He reinforced to the students what employer’s value such as listening and problem solving skills, arriving to work before time, honouring commitments and respecting the privilege of employment. Mark also spoke about what personal qualities he is looking for in future employees. He reinforced why WPSC focuses on the 3R’s and how it forms the foundation for a successful career and life.

A very big thankyou to Mark for taking the time to speak to WPSC students.

Spring into Cyberspace (Level 1)

This term students have learned the concept of animation and produced several animations of their own. Their project was to produce an animation involving a banana. The animations were all very creative and high in quality from producing a simulation of the opening screen of Super Mario to an imaginative animation, bringing a banana to life. The students have also learned how to create a website using html coding. They are currently producing a website for a travel company for their project, incorporating creative features such as flash animated graphics, pictures, hyperlinks and text.

Programming Pathways (Level 2)

Students have been learning about the processes required when designing and producing computer games, which is a huge industry today. Students have learned the difference between a top down design and a platform game. They have produced their games using the Game Maker software package using both inbuilt functions and their own coding. We have just started the Game Maker project, where students demonstrate their creative skills by developing a game of their own design.

Launch into ICT (Level 3)

This term students have animation and produced several animations of their own. Their project was to produce an animation involving a strawberry. The animations were all very creative from an exploding strawberry to a simulation of the game flappy birds. Students have also learned how to create a website using html coding. They are currently producing a website for a games company for their project, using four steps of the problem solving methodology that is used in industry.
