Principal's Report

Past Student Excelling

Bernard Field was a joint dux of Patterson River Secondary College Class of  2014. We knew he was destined to achieve excellence and he has lived up to all expectation, graduating Bachelor of Science Advance Research (honours) at the top of the year and with the best thesis.

Bernard is now doing his Phd in theoretical physics, using computational quantum physics to calculate the properties of new electronic materials. This is part of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Future Low Energy Electronic Technologies(FLEET).

After this Bernard wants to continue in academia as a research scientist.

Our congratulations to Bernard. The Patterson River Secondary College community is proud of you.

2019

As the year comes to a close I would like to take the opportunity to thank staff, students and parents for their support this year. Term 4 has flown by and I have really enjoyed the experience of Acting Principal while Daniel Dew has filled a role at regional level.

Once again it has been a busy year with many camps, excursions, performing arts performances and sporting activities. Not to mention the core work that is being completed inside the classrooms on a daily basis. This year has been focussed on embedding the many changes introduced last year including our House system and student leadership, the new College values and Hands on Learning.

I have been amazed by the dedication of our school community to provide a diverse range of activities for our students. Highlights include the annual Musical Soiree, a Night on Broadway – a dance and drama spectacular, College band performances at a range of venues offsite including for local politicians and the Bonbeach Farmers Market, Excel Sport successes winning State titles in Beach Volley Ball, Futsal, European Handball and Touch Football, the Year 7 Boys winning the state title for Hockey and Rhys McKenna winning the Gold medal for javelin at the State level. These outstanding achievements are the embodiment of our College values and demonstrate Persistence, Excellence, Community and Respect. Thank you to all those involved in these and many more activities for their hard work and dedication in making such amazing results achievable for our students.

The end of year is often a time that we say farewell to some retiring and departing staff members. This year we farewell Mrs Maree McCormack after 25 years at Patterson River as a textiles and Art teacher at the College. We wish her all the very best for her well-earned retirement. In addition to Mrs McCormack, I would like to thank and say goodbye to Rachael Miller, Emily Davison, Heinz Pfister and Benifer Billimoria who have been successful in securing opportunities at other schools. I wish them the very best for their future endeavours.

This week, the 2019 VCE results were released. Our College Dux was Aaryan Kulkarni who achieved an ATAR of 89.7. Once again we had a large number of students receiving study scores over 37. We wish the graduates good luck in gaining entrance to their chosen fields.

I would like to thank all students who undertook a leadership role at the College this year. This year has seen many changes to leadership in the College with Student Voice being a priority. We are very proud of the work they have done including coming second in the state wide VIC SRC awards for the student led project of the Sports Hub. In particular I would like to thank our College Captains, Aaryan Kulkarni, Tegan Miller, Nilam Azemi and Chantel Grady for their outstanding leadership, team work and dedication. I would also like to congratulate our recently elected College Captains for 2020 Matthew Cook, Stephanie Chaberka, Jessica Kurth and Kassi  Wilson.
