Arts Showcase

Arts Showcase
I have a feeling we aren’t in Mawson Lakes anymore…. That’s because our Art department transported us to a land, somewhere over the rainbow, to be swept away by the exceptional work of our Year 10-12 Visual Arts students. With a theme for this year’s Arts Showcase as the Wizard of Oz, you just knew that as a visitor, you were about to discover a whole lot of heart, an intelligent collection and a courageous display of fascinating art.
Over two nights and one day, guests were treated to a rare viewing of Year 12 student creations in Art and Design. From poignant pieces of art that provoked our values and opinions to calming scenes that took us far away, guests could see the process by which our students researched, analysed, explored and experimented with different media and techniques. The result was an imaginative display showcasing their learnt skills and talents.
Also on display was the special feature of the Yellow Brick Road. Made from bricks designed by our Connected Schools’ Year 4 students – or as we like to call them on this occasion – Munchkins, these bricks were fired in our kiln and glazed yellow ready for display. The Year 4s especially liked to view this work of creativity to find their very own design along the path.
Special guests, were hosted by our visitors from Oz, including the Wizard (aka Andrew Harten), Dorothy (aka Annalisa Sheridan), the Wicked Witch (Liana Galic) and the Cowardly Lion (aka Brandon Avery). Tours conducted by our students were given to the Year 4s who were the artists behind the Yellow Brick Road and families could enjoy music, songs and food, all from our students.
The Arts Showcases keeps getting better and better and is a fantastic testament to the amazing abilities of our Art teachers and their inspiring student prodigies.
