Principal's Report

The foundation of every state is the education of its youth

Diogenes, Greek Philosopher

Welcome back everyone to the second semester of the year, and unfortunately I cannot promise it will be any less busy than first semester! Welcome to our new students who commenced with us. We have Oscar in 3C, Spriha in 1B and Holly in 4C.

I am sure you have been welcomed by your classmates and are now part of the Boronia Heights community.

I am hoping families had an opportunity to have a rest over the break and are ready for the term ahead.

Building Update

Help required for moving

Next Friday 28th July will see the Year 4 classes move to their new classes in their bright, spacious and lovely new spaces. The year 2 classes will most likely move in the following week.  The Principals, Office Staff, Chaplin, grade 5 classes and Judy Goulding’s grade 2 class will all move as well.  Art and German classes will be taught in individual classes.  We are so excited to be moving FINALLY into the grade 2 and 4 areas ….they look amazing. As they settle into their grade we will be purchasing new tables and chairs to suit the designs of the learning areas.

School Office

During the next stage of our renovation the school office will move to the site sheds near the new grade 4 classrooms. Cold and wet weather means that sometimes the office doors could be closed but they will always be open for questions or payments. My office will be in the end site shed along with Denise who will be next to the office, so please visit us at any time.  The other site sheds will be used by the Chaplain, the Specialist Teachers and there will be a Small Staffroom, a First Aid room and the Uniform Shop. Thanking you for your support during the next building phase.

2017 Chocolate Drive

Our main fundraiser for Term 2 was the annual chocolate drive and we still have ten boxes left to sell. A push notification went home before the holidays asking for your further support and with the school in moving mode we desperately need to ask if any families could take a box and sell them to family, friends, grandparents, neighbours or work colleagues.  Thank you to all families that supported this fundraiser with many families selling more than they were initially given.

School Magazine

In 2017, Boronia Heights will be publishing our first School Magazine.  An annual school magazine is a wonderful way to celebrate the successes of the year.   A magazine is a great reminder of the wonderful events and activities that your children have participated in.  This magazine will display every grade and specialist area and celebrate whole school events in both photographs and words.  It will become a special keepsake for children and families to read through and enjoy for years to come and is a fantastic Christmas present for grandparents. From next year, the cost of the magazine will be included in the booklist, but this year we need to have exact numbers and payment upfront for us to order the correct number from the printers.  Do not miss placing your order as once we have placed orders with the printers there is no opportunity to order later.

A notice was sent home last Friday for you to fill in and return the slip and money. The cost of the magazine is $17.00 and will be distributed at the end of the year.

Curriculum Day Reminder

Our final curriculum day will be held on Monday 31st July.

There is no After School Care available due to not enough students enrolled on the day.

Prep Enrolments for 2018

Do you have a Prep student for 2018? Please pick up an enrolment form from the office. The earlier we know our numbers the better we can plan for the students. We would love to give you an up to date tour of the school and explain our state of the art facilities upgrade.

Parent Opinion Survey

The Parent Opinion Survey is distributed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. This year, about 30% of parents will be invited to participate. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement and relationships. Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd. and only takes 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. If you are randomly selected to participate, you will receive more information next week.

Have a wonderful rest of the week, even though the weather is not excellent, and stay warm. I will be attending the year 5 camp this week at Sovereign Hill, I will certainly be packing my winter woollies….

Take Care
