Reconciliation Week
From the Discovery Team
Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27th May to the 3rd June. This year’s theme, ‘Be a Voice for Generations’, urges all Australians to use their power, their words and their actions to create a better, more just Australia for all of us.
This week our classrooms have been buzzing with enthusiasm as we have explored the rich culture, history and significance of reconciliation in Australia. From stories of resilience and courage to learning about the importance of respect and understanding, our students have truly embraced the spirit of reconciliation.
One of the highlights of our week was the creation of our Sea of Hands installation in our front corner garden bed. Each student participated in decorating a hand to contribute to this display. These hands, adorned with vibrant colours and unique designs, symbolise our unity and commitment to building bridges between all Australians. It is a powerful visual reminder of our shared journey towards reconciliation.
The Sea of Hands installation will stand proudly in our school garden for a period of time before being moved to a more permanent art piece that we will display within the school. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the PFA for very generously offering to fund the materials required to create this installation. This is very much appreciated!
We hope you have the opportunity to view our Sea of Hands in the coming weeks and that it acts as a visual reminder to our community of the importance of reconciliation every day. It is not just an event or a week; it is a lifelong journey of understanding, respect, and healing. Together, we can foster a future where all Australians stand hand in hand, acknowledging and celebrating our diverse cultures and histories.
