Middle School Showcase Assembly

By Mr Messenger (Head of Middle School)

On Tuesday this week the Middle School students and some parents gathered in the gym for the Middle School Showcase Assembly.

Yr 7 Band

Forty Yr 7 students filled the stage with their instruments and played the three songs they have been working on for only a semester.  Our exciting new music program has taken students who have never picked up an instrument to being able to perform together to an amazing standard in only two terms.  We have been so incredibly impressed with the attitude and growth mindsets of each and every student in this program.

Saxophone ensemble

The saxophone ensemble (AKA Baz & the Spit Rattlers!) played a short yet jazzy piece.  It was great to hear the earth-trembling sounds of our esteemed baritone saxophone!

Yr 8 Art

Nathan and Ebony spoke about the new and innovative approach that our inspiring art teachers have introduced this year.  Students are using the skills and techniques they are taught to create a Personal Passion Project.  Art at BHCS is not just about creating a final product, but also focuses on skills such as having a positive view on mistakes, being aware of negative self-talk and encouraging others.  What a great initiative!

Language Perfect Awards

Madame McGrath announced the fantastic results from this year's Language Perfect competitions. So many of our Yr 7 and 8 students received awards for their outstanding commitment and efforts in French.

5/6 Oral Presentations

Recently the 5/6 students were give random topics to research and present their findings in front of the class.  We heard all about the sock habits in Amelie's family, Kate introduced us the world of bungee jumping, and Sophie spoke creatively about our nation's capital.  It was impressive to see the confidence in these girls as they spoke in front of 250 of their peers.

Yr 7 Poetry

Cara-Jane, Will and Jemima shared poems that they read out at the Yr 7 Poetry night.

Middle School Choir

We heard the Middle School choir sing the songs "Siyahamba" and "This is Me".  It was incredible to hear a handful of students sing so strong and expressively.

Yr 8 PUSH

It was great to hear from some of our Yr 8 students talk about the new PUSH Program.  Whether it be trekking, crossfit, mountain biking or boxing - twice a week the students are working improving fitness, encouraging each other and building their character.

Jungle Book Kids

We got a wonderful sneak peak at the song "Trust in Me" from the upcoming Prep-Yr 6 musical Jungle Book Kids.  Keep your calender free in mid-August - this is sure to be show to remember!

Mr Wanders' Nonsense Spot

A Middle School Assembly is never complete without a little nonsense from the one and only Mr Wanders.  This time he had three pairs of competitors frisbeeing crackers in paper funnels as a verbal timer consisting of a bunch of students singing the National Anthem only using the numbers one to five.....I guess you had to be there!!

I was incredibly proud of our students, and equally proud of our school that provides so many varied experiences for our children in Yr 5-8.

Go Middle School!  What a great place to be!
