BHCS Did You Know...

Parenting Seminar
On Tuesday, June 12 Brett Ryan from Focus on the Family came in to share with our parents about bringing up children and the challenges that they may face.
There was a great response and we had about 60 parents attend and learn more about setting boundaries, having a consistent approach, building a meaningful relationship with your children and how to tackle technology.
It was an informative & entertaining night and the school (in conjunction with the PFA) are hopeful of running some more parent seminars in the future.
Yr 9 Combine with Yr 5 & 6
By Mrs Woods – Secondary Art Teacher
With exams over, the tables turned for the Yr 9 Art students as they were assigned the role of being Art teachers for the day. Each Yr 9 student was allocated two Yr 5 and 6 students to whom they taught some of the unique techniques they used in their own art folios which are currently on exhibition in our school gallery.
The Art room was a buzz with creativity and a wonderful atmosphere of collaboration across year levels. This was a unique opportunity for students to share their knowledge, trial new material and techniques and to develop relationships as they worked alongside one another.
Wonderful conversations were overheard as students related, laughed and encouraged one another in their artistic endeavours. As they left the room, the Yr 5 and 6 students thanked their Yr 9 Art teachers and excitedly shared their work with their friends.
A comment by a Yr 5 student to his friend at the conclusion of the lesson which summed up the experience beautifully was ‘….that was so much fun, I wish we could do it again’.
Kinder Autumn Picnic
By Mrs Bart – Kinder Teacher
On Tuesday, May 29 our kinder group set off for a very exciting bus trip to the Belgrave Heights Convention Center. It was a great opportunity to connect to our local community and experience nature. We sang 'the Wheels On the Bus' with Stewart the bus driver as the children pointed out familiar land marks.
When we arrived, we went for an Autumn tree hunt and found piles of crunchie brown leaves and a few yellow ones. We filled our parachute lots of times with leaves and lifted them high up into the air. They sometimes fell all over Mrs Begg (Formally Miss Cantwell) our wonderful helpers and some of the kinder children! No one seemed to mind and it was fun to see how high the leaves could they could go!
The children then practiced their balancing, climbing and swinging skills on the play equipment. Even one of our parent helpers had a turn swinging upside down!
This was followed by a a picnic morning tea including a Teddy Bear biscuit and another exciting trip back to kinder!
So, What's On Your Holiday Playlist ?
Holidays are coming but MUSIC is still on our minds. Following on from our amazing Middle School Showcase Assembly highlighting an incredible semester and celebrating some wonderful music by the Year 7 Band, Saxophone Ensemble and MS Choir, we are taking a brief break from our Music Tutor Profiles to ask What's on your holiday playlist? Hopefully MUSIC - of all sorts, for many purposes, in many places, for many moods.
MUSIC
Music makes me smile,
Any kind of style,
Loud, quiet, fast or slow,
My heart just seems to kind of glow,
Music can make your day real bright,
Like the moon in the middle of the night,
Music's great when you're feeling down,
Music never makes me frown,
Music makes me feel delighted,
Because it makes me all excited,
Music sings a lullaby,
Music helps the day get by,
But at the end of the day I will always desire,
To listen to music that will inspire.
This original poem by Cara-Jane M (Yr 7) shared during our Tuesday Assembly fits well with our question....."So, what's on your holiday playlist?"

Junior Primary Swimming
By Mr Ludbrook– Grade1/2 Teacher
Six days of swimming had Grades Prep to 4
To be perfectly honest we'd like just one more
Casey ARC is the place to swim we did travel
Aquatic and Recreation Centre if ARC you unravel
Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and fly
Floating, diving, splashing, we gave it all a try
Each lesson mastering skills and technique
That enable survival when water we meet
The last day was filled with fun you couldn't hide
Wave pool, water polo, inflatable bounce and slide
When the bus delivered us safely back to the school
Mr Callow said, “How was it?” We replied, “Cool.”
