Healthy Choices …

Bilima group and Gurawara group have been learning about healthy choices. We have used the food pyramid to sort foods into everyday foods and sometimes food. We discussed how healthy food gives us nutrients and vitamins that make us strong, energetic and help the children grow. The children have found the story of “The Magic Lunchbox” to be very funny and fascinating! We have used our very own ‘magic box’ to share healthy (but pretend) food. The children are starting to transfer their knowledge from grouptimes to discussions during mealtimes.

The children have also focussed on healthy choices through exercise. Bilima group were very active on Tuesday when we had our very own athletics carnival. As you can see from the pictures they enjoyed running around the track, balancing balls on spoons, aiming bean bags at targets and using exercise dice to do sit-ups, push-ups, star jumps and touching their toes. Gurawara are very focused when we do Tai Chi with Mrs K, they are also incorporating games like ‘Red Light, Green Light’ and ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf?’ into their play.

The children in Preschool bring in healthy lunchboxes every day, and there is often so many chats between the children on what they have to eat, however, parents and families often ask for suggestions on what to pack. Please know that you are doing a wonderful job at this and for more information see the link below for added ways to pack healthy lunches:
