Kids News 2023 Short Story Competition
www.kidsnews.com.au/short-story-competition
The Kids News Short Story Competition runs from May 1 to May 26. It is an optional competition and it is free to enter.
The competition has 3 different age groups that are relevant for us:
- Foundation to Year 2
- Years 3 & 4
- Years 5 & 6
Stories must be between 250 and 750 words for students in Foundation to Year 4 and between 500 to 100 words for students in Years 5 and 6.
A panel of judges, led by award-winning author Jackie French, will choose the winning entries, with the first prize winner in each category scoring 10 copies of their short story published into a printed book with a personally designed cover. There are mentorships through HarperCollins also available for students as well.
If your child/children enjoy writing, this is a great opportunity to create a short story (it can be one they have already written, or they may choose to start a new story) and enter the competition.
I will need to submit the students’ stories, so please send completed copies to me prior to May 26. There is also an opportunity to submit images that the students may have created to compliment their story. Please look at the website if you are interested and let me know if your child/children would like to submit an entry. I can assist them through the process.
Please indicate interest by emailing me on Jacqueline.morphy@education.vic.gov.au
We need your help!
Thank you to those parents who have taken a bag of books home to cover in contact. I am still looking for some more helpers if anyone can spare some time.
We have lots of new books purchased for the Classroom Libraries that need to be covered prior to making their way to the classroom shelves. I can provide all the contact. Please come and see me in the quadrangle at school drop off or pick up if you think you might be able to help.
