Lisa Chesters Visit

Last week we were very fortunate to be visited by Lisa Chesters MP who is a federal member of parliament. Our students were presented with a selection of books from the shortlist of the Prime Minister's Literacy Award and one was even personally signed by Mr Anthony Albanese!  Our students got to learn a little about what Lisa Chesters role is and about how people are elected as MPs.

Camps

Important Notice- The dates for the Year 3 and 4 camp to Billabong Ranch have changed. Camp will still be held in the first week of Term 4 but has been moved to the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (rather than the beginning of that week). This change was due to another booking at the camp cancelling, allowing us the much preferred option of having the camp at the end of the week. Therefore the new dates for this camp are Wednesday October 4th to Friday October 6th.

Arrangements for both the Year 3/4 Camp to Billabong Ranch in Echuca and the Year 5/6 Camp to Canberra are well and truly underway. Thank you to those families who promptly returned the expressions of interest forms that were sent home and have paid the deposit. Please feel free to continue to pay in instalments, if it suits families better to spread out the payment across this term and next. Bree will send accounts home to families at the end of this term, so you know the balance owing for your child's camp. Remember that if you have any questions or concerns about camp, please contact Lisa.

Walking Our Way To School

Last Friday we took part in the National Walk Safely To School Day. The bus completed the morning run at Speke St and we met our local policeman, Marcus, staff and non-bus travellers to walk to school. We even had two of our mums with pushers (and babies) join us. We then arrived at school to have our usual Friday Breakfast Club and a special treat of pancakes!

Coronavirus

Just a reminder to families that we do have Rapid Antigen Tests available. As you would be aware cases of Coronavirus are on the rise around Bendigo and district, with many schools reporting outbreaks so please be vigilant and test as soon as you notice symptoms or have been in contact with a positive case. For families wanting more Rapid Antigen Tests please just message Lisa and we will send them home with your child/ren.

Playground Update

We have been informed that our installation date for stage one of our new playground is August 17th. We will continue to raise funds for Stage Two, in the hope that we will be able to have our existing playground fully replaced to a safer and more appealing set of equipment very soon.

School council News

At our last school council meeting (held on Monday evening) an Assessment and Report Writing Day was approved as a Curriculum Day for our school. This means that students will not attend school on this day but staff will attend to collate assessments and write student reports. The date of this Curriculum Day is Friday June 9th- which is the Friday before the June Long Weekend.

We are also investigating the possibility of hosting Cookie Dough Drive to raise funds to help families offset the cost of the school camps this year. We are looking into the viability of such a drive for our small school (as we don't want to put extra costs onto families or extra work onto people having to organise such an event). Watch this space for some news about this. Having said that , if anyone out there has some really innovative fundraising ideas and wants to put their hand up to help organise them, please drop us a line.

Winter Sports Day- Year 3-6

On Thursday June 8th our year 3-6 students are invited to participate in footy, netball or soccer, alongside their Campaspe Small Schools friends. This event will be held at the Colbinabbin Recreation Reserve. All the details and permissions are on uEducateUS- could parents of students in Years 3-6 please log on and authorise for your child/ren to attend.

Mother's Day Stall

Thank you to Pip and Link for running our annual Mother's Day Stall. All students lovingly selected their gifts and wrapped them ready for their mums. Thank you to those kind people who donated some goods for us to have at the stall (I won't name you, but you know who you are).

A special thank you to Suzanne Camm (aka The Rock Lady), who painted each student a special rock and placed it in a gift bag for them to give their mum. The art work and sentiment were absolutely beautiful.

Sometimes a girl just has to be a little bit fancy....

That's all for this week- Lisa Duffy

News from Bree in the office

Sign in -Sign Out Book

Just a reminder to parents to please attend the office and make sure you sign your children in or out if you are dropping them in late to school or picking them up early. The  book is always available and sitting just near the window of my office. I would like to stress the importance of this as your child's safety is our number 1 priority, we need to have all students accounted for at all times. This is a Department of Education requirement.

CSEF Payments

I have contacted all relevant  families regarding this and I am still awaiting some details from a few families. If this is you, could you please get these to me ASAP as we don't want you to miss out on receiving this grant to help offset the cost of camps and excursions.

Uniform Sales

Uniforms are available for sale from the school office.

Uniform Prices

Polo Tops $15.95

Hoodies $25.95 (With Zip)

Whilst we do have some pants and shorts, we are phasing out this stock as it is cheaper and there is more range for parents at local stores such as Big W, Target, Lowes and K-Mart. But please ask if you are after pants or shorts, we may still have what you want in stock.

I also have a variety of second hand uniform that is available for a small fee if anyone is interested.
