We are learning to identify and use inverse operations to assist with the solution of number sentences

VOCABULARY

Operation: mathematical procedures or processes used to work something out, e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.

Inverse: opposite, reverse operations.

Number sentence: a number sentence is a mathematical sentence written in

numerals and mathematical symbols

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Have you child create their own mathematical problem, using their life as inspiration eg. If I had 4 pieces of toast everyday for 12 weeks. How many pieces of toast would I eat in 12 weeks?

Have them write a number sentence to answer the problem then use the inverse operation to check their answers.
