Scout students on the eve of ANZAC Day
Here is a gallery of this fortnight’s recipients:
Jarrad Nastasi
Year 6 student, Jarrad Nastasi, recently returned from his tour of New Zealand with the U14 Australian Softball Team. Jarrad was one of four students selected from Western Australia to compete in the Australian Team. Jarrad's team finished at the top of their division and placed third overall in the tournament.
Jarrad has now been selected to play for Western Australia and the Queensland Regional Tournament in the upcoming July holiday break. We wish Jarrad much success at this upcoming tournament.
Caleb Richards
Year 2 student, Caleb Richards was chosen to play Auskick at the West Coast Eagles versus Gold Coast Suns game last weekend. Caleb was very excited to play on the same ground as the Eagles.
Bryden Sexton and Andrew Sampson
On Sunday 30th April, Year 5 student, Bryden Sexton and Year 6 student, Andrew Sampson represented John Wollaston in the WA XCO Schools Mountain Bike Series U13’s Sprockets race in Kalamunda. The WA Schools MTB Series is a pilot program supported by Perth MTB Club designed to introduce new riders to the sport. Further races are planned for later in the year at Dwellingup, The Goat Farm, and the Schools Championships.
The boys raced with 25 other young riders on a continuous cross-country loop for 30 minutes at Mount Gungin trails. The trails consisted of lots of rough gravel, plenty of uphill climbing and some downhill sections. The boys had a great time and are looking forward to further training with the Sprockets and more races in the coming months.
Scouts
Ethan Smith (Year 6), Jamie Ng and Joshua Van Der Walt (Year 4), Cameron Ng (Year 2) and Caleb Van Der Walt (Year 1) all stood vigil at the Kelmscott Memorial on the eve of ANZAC Day. While holding their respective flags, they each guarded the cenotaph in 15 minutes shifts and then volunteered for additional shifts. The dedication, honour and respect demonstrated throughout the evening is admirable.
