What will help us get ready for school?

For students - suggestions and tips for families, to assist their children.

  • Come and play on the junior playground on the weekends and holidays.
  • walk around the grounds - where are the drink taps? where are the doors? where is the office? Where is the stadium?
  • Use drink fountains, or practise opening drink bottles.
  • Practise opening zips and clips ( lunch boxes, jumpers/jackets, school bags, and satchels can all be tricky)
  • Name everything- school bags ( they look the same ) lunchboxes, and satchels.
  • Just a reminder that we need to be able to identify, and return items if needed so the more permanent the name the better.
  • Learn to recognise their own name - this is handy for book tubs, bag tubs, readers, drink bottles etc.
  • Sun hats are required in Term 1 and Term 4. Please name them. No Hat - play undercover.

For Parents and families - suggestions and tips

  • Get into the habit of checking Compass ( after you install the app) and reading the newsletter. We do not send home paper permission forms, all events are online.
  • Students will be tired. Regular bedtimes will help. Please use the testing days to rest.
  • Give yourself enough time in the morning to arrive by 8.45 am. Get into the habit of your student unpacking their bag the night before, putting their reader away ( in the bag ) unpack and showing you their lunch box ( wrappers in the bin, etc)
  • If you would like to chat with the teacher, please email or organise a time via email, or phone message. That way they can give you their full attention. In an emergency, please contact the school office and we can assist you in passing messages on.
  • Just a reminder that Foundation students have Wednesdays until March (the exact date will be confirmed in 2024) This is to allow for Foundation student testing, your teacher will be in contact with you to arrange dates and times.

Medication at school

Please be assured that all information shared with the school will remain confidential and only be shared with parties who need to know.

Sometimes students will need to take over-the-counter purchased or Doctors prescribed medication during school hours. This may be for a short time, or daily occurrence, but either way, the school first aid officer and office can assist.

Please do not ever put any medication in your child's school bag for them to self-administer.
