Each year School Sport Victoria offers gifted and talented students from our school community, to register, and to trial for a Victorian State Sporting Team. The sports on offer include Australian Rules Football, Cricket, Netball, Basketball, Soccer, and many other sports too.
Each school is only allowed a maximum of three students for each sport to attend these trials. These trials form part of School Sport Victoria’s Gifted and Talented program and are not ‘come and try’ opportunities. Each child is trialing for a position in the state team and as such we acknowledge each child’s athleticism, skill level, and school behaviour.
We had several students from Kalinda participate in these trials.
A special mention to Liam G, who performed exceptionally well in these trials. Liam was endorsed to participate in the trials for two sports – Basketball and AFL. He made it to the third round of the Basketball trials, the best 26 in the state, and is still undertaking his AFL trials, and will compete in the third round next week.
To achieve such sporting success in one sport is fantastic, though to do it in two sports is absolutely outstanding.
We wish Liam all the best with his upcoming trials and look forward to hearing how he goes.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Riley D, who progressed through to the second round of the Basketball trials and this too is an excellent achievement.
Well done to all students who participated in these trials, a great experience for everyone involved.
A huge congratulations to the students below who competed in Division Cross Country at Yarra Glen Racecourse. The competition at this level becomes very challenging and we are very proud of the way these students represented Kalinda. They each showed determination and perseverance and ensured they left nothing behind, giving it their absolute best shot! Congratulations on your achievements!
Xavier M - 16th Fraser G - 4th Chloe D - 20th
Fraser continued his journey in the competition, running in the Eastern Metropolitan Region race which was held last Tuesday, again at Yarra Glen Racecourse.
In a huge, very competitive field, Fraser did incredibly well, coming in 43rd position.
