Student learning around KPS

Foundation

Lots of fun things in Foundation. Can you believe we got to sit in the fire truck, and hold the hose when it squirted water?

Grades 1 and 2

In Grades 2H and 2LB, we used a picture prompt of a baby bird playing in Autumn leaves. We also illustrated our own front covers.

Read how these narratives begin...... are you hooked?

Crazy Hair Day

We rocked it - and raised nearly $400 for our Sponsored Child and had lots of fun!

Art

Grades 1 & 2

The Grade 1 and 2 students have been looking at different styles of Aboriginal art. They have drawn an Australian animal and had a go at using a diagonal cross-hatching pattern for the background. This pattern is called “Rarrk” and originated from Arnhem land.

Aboriginal artists from this same area created artwork showing their knowledge of the inside of animals’ bodies, called X-Ray Art. Our students have enjoyed using white pens and markers to outline bones and intestines in their own drawings.

Grade 6

The Gr 6 students began this activity by designing a very simple toy. They created a paper pattern from their design and used this to cut the furry fabric pieces to size. The body is made like a pillow and most students used a single piece of felt for ears or limbs.

The pieces of fabric were sewn together, inside out, with a needle and matching thread. It was fun to turn them out the right way and fill them with stuffing before sewing the opening closed and gluing on simple faces.
