Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.

We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

Oh What a Knight!!

What an amazing end to the term, with our whole school production last week. Without a doubt, this was the highlight of our year at Kalinda and I am so incredibly proud of every student who performed.

The quality of the singing, dancing, acting, comedic timing (love a bit of toilet humour!!) and every aspect of the performance was incredible. Students had the opportunity to share their talent and shine on stage.

Behind the scenes, the incredible performances were supported by Sarah Butler, Cheryl Henry-Wild, Paul Todd, and all of the staff at Kalinda.

A huge thank you also goes to every single parent who got involved in supporting the production. I can't name everyone, but I would particularly like to thank Chris Mann, Peiying Ng, Mark Hopkins, Melissa Luke, Lara Evans, and members of the P&F.

Well done to every student who got out on stage, from our Foundation performers right through to our leads, you all did a wonderful job. I am also incredibly proud of every student who got on stage and performed even if they were not confident in performing, shy or full of self-doubt. You have challenged yourself and succeeded, what a great lesson in life.

I spoke after the performance on the second night about the impact that music and performance are shown to have on literacy outcomes for students. This is one of the many reasons behind our commitment to performing arts and music at Kalinda. I am sure so many of you also saw as parents the amazing resilience, teamwork, dedication, and bravery that every performer has to use. These attributes are essential in life, and it is through providing these experiences that we can support their growth.

I could go on for pages and pages about our production, and if you have run into me over the last week you would have heard me going on about the talent and dedication of our students and staff.  Needless to say, we are already looking forward to our next production in 2025 (it is a bi-annual event) and I know that the students will be looking forward to it as well.
