Science

Year 7 Science  |  Year 9 Chemistry  |  Year 12 Science

Year 7

Year 7 students have begun their ventures into the states of matter, which serve as the fundamentals towards understanding more complex chemical and physical science concepts in the near future. They familiarise themselves with new lab equipment such as digital hotplates to manipulate the rapid state change of water.

Year 9

Year 9 students are nearing the conclusion of the chemistry unit, which culminates towards multiple practicals involving chemicals such as acids and bases as well as a major investigative self-designed assessment: What substances would corrode iron faster? What substances would inhibit corrosion? These lead to students selecting their own combinations of preferred chemicals and tools in an attempt to influence and investigate corrosion reactions.

Year 12

Year 12 students investigated electrolysis by electroplating zinc metal coating onto a strip of copper. Just like how 'tin cans' are actually steel cans coated with tin.
