This week we celebrate Education Week. This year, Education Week runs from Sunday 14 to Saturday, May 20. The theme of Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate celebrates the many ways students learn, through physical activity, hands on learning and student voice.
Education Week is an opportunity for our school to celebrate all the ways we encourage our students to be active learners.
Move - Physical Activity
Physical activity helps students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying relationships. Our students have endless opportunities to engage in physical activities with our new amazing garden space, PMP program, physical brain breaks, Cross Country, Parish Sports, Phys Ed Classes and much more.
Make - Hands-on
Through hands-on learning, students can try new things, take risks and learn from their mistakes. At St Mary's, students engage in hands-on learning each week. They explore their local environment through our 'The Sea is Our Best Friend' beach walks, STEM learning in specialist classes, exploring our gardens and engaging in STEM or other challenge-based competitions.
Motivate - Student Voice
When students have a voice in their learning, their motivation increases. Student voice is going from strength to strength at St Mary's, with our Mini Vinnies, Health Promoting Schools, Earth Care leaders and more. Students also have voice in their learning, setting goals in maths fluency and choosing a focus for their inquiry learning.
Let's celebrate all the amazing learning that is happening at St Mary's this week! To find out more or engage in some learning at home, visit the Education Week 2023 website or click below on our Home Learning Portal.
