BUSHFIRE PREPAREDNESS WORKS

Those who have been on site at either campus lately might have noticed some works going on.  Some of those works look a little strange and it’s possible you’ll be wondering what on earth we’re doing.  These works being undertaken are led and funded by the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) and are designed to establish a safe space at each campus in the event of a bushfire.  At Scotsburn the space identified is the double portable and at Buninyong it’s the gym.

There’s a wide range of work happening, mostly designed to protect these spaces from ember attack and prevent the actual buildings catching fire.  Some of this work includes painting wooden surfaces with a fire-resistant paint, which unfortunately comes in one colour and isn’t particularly attractive.  We also expect to see some trimming or removal of trees, but hopefully this will be minimal.

We’re doing our best to make sure the works meet the aim of protecting students and staff, but without spoiling the aesthetics unnecessarily.

FOOTBALL AT SCHOOL

It’s great that many of our students like to get active and enjoy football during break times.  At our Buninyong Campus the games have been a little too competitive at times, resulting in the potential for children to get upset or injured.  And we want all students to feel comfortable joining others playing football without fear of the game being too rough.

After quite a few reminders in recent times, the football games continued to be overly competitive and unsafe, so we decided to have a spell from end-to-end matches and tackling.  The kids are still able to take out their footies and have a kick. Hopefully we’ll have the confidence to resume matches soon, but students who continue to play in a rough manner will be asked to find something else to do.

P-2 TOILET REFURBISHMENT UPDATE

The works to refurbish the P-2 toilets at our Buninyong Campus will be completed in the next couple of days.  Then we can expect a final sign off from the department soon after and they’ll be ready for the kids to use.  The finished product will look amazing and be a far cry from the condition they were in prior to the start of the project.

Once the new toilets are in use, contractors will come to disconnect and move the temporary toilets from the front of the school.

MOTHER’S DAY

We wish all mums a happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.  There are several things happening at school this week in the lead up to this day, which is all part of encouraging our kids to be thoughtful and the importance of showing gratitude.  It’s always nice to see the excitement in the room at the Mother’s Day Stall as the kids decide what to purchase for mum.
