Safeguarding Students on Computers

Linewize
Our school is using a filtering and safeguarding system at school now. This system protects our students on the internet at school and identifies any inappropriate searches conducted while using their school Google Account. This information from Linewize has been provided to ensure your privacy at home.
Holy Family School uses safeguarding and monitoring technology to help keep your child safer online and ensure they use their device as best as possible to support learning.
If they use a school device at any time of day, the school and teachers can monitor their activity to support them better. The school is responsible for its devices, networks and Google accounts 24/7. When students use their school-issued Google account to sign into Chrome on a personal Chromebook, Windows or Mac device at any time of the day, including at home, we will also monitor the activity within that Chrome session.
Students need to be especially aware of this when not at school. We must ensure students use it appropriately because it is a school Google account. Therefore this may include taking screenshots of personal Chromebooks if risky behaviour is detected when the school Google account is being used on it.
Importantly for BYOD, the technology will only monitor activity within the Chrome/Chromebook session signed in with the school Google account. The technology cannot monitor activity beyond the school account's Chrome session. Therefore, do not use the school's Google account for personal activities. Use a personal Google account to sign into the Chrome browser or Chromebook, or use a different web browser altogether. That is the child's and parent's responsibility to manage.
If you have any questions or concerns about the monitoring and safeguarding technology we are using, please see www.linewize.io/legal.
MACS Digital Ambition Consultation
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is developing a Digital Ambition and is seeking input into the ambition from school communities across the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
The MACS Digital Ambition is a statement of how we will enable our MACS 2030 Strategy through a contemporary technology experience for all. Importantly, it will set out how we will provide students, staff, and whole school communities with safe, simple, intuitive, and innovative digital experiences.
To ensure our Digital Ambition is aligned with the needs of our school communities, MACS is inviting and encouraging you to participate in this consultation process by:
· Reviewing the Digital Ambition Draft for Consultation.
· Providing feedback to the targeted questions via a quick online survey. This link will remain open until Friday, 26 May. Survey Link
· Attend online 'drop-in' sessions where the MACS team will happily answer questions directly.
A dedicated session for parents and families is on
Monday, May 22nd 2023 - 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
