Principal's Report

Carly Avery

Dear Parents/Guardians

A big thank you to Trav Hunt and Michael Kearton who began the process of removing our playground equipment over the weekend. A big job! This will be finalised over the coming weeks and then the area will be excavated and levelled ready for the installation of our new equipment next term. Exciting times!

Over the next two weeks, there are two opportunities for you to come in and be part of the teaching and learning with your child/ren.

  1. Learning Walk- Friday 9th June 9:00 am
  2. Learning Expo- Monday 19th June 2:15-3:15 pm

Learning Walk:

The purpose of a Learning Walk is an opportunity to come in and experience teaching and learning across the school in a specific curriculum area. It gives you the opportunity to see what is happening at your child/ren’s level and also the progress across the school.

Our focus this Friday is on Numeracy on Challenging Tasks.

Learning Walks take between 40-60 mins, we will meet in the office area to begin at 9:00 am.

Learning Expo:

The purpose of a Learning Expo is to give students an opportunity to share learnings from the term with an authentic audience. It also gives you as a parent an opportunity to come in and see some of the learning that has taken place over the term.

Learning Expo’s go from 2:15-3:15 pm, and it is up to you how long you spend.

A reminder that I will be away on long service leave for the last two weeks of this term and the first few weeks of next term. I am very grateful to have this time and the support of a great team at St. Joseph’s. Michael Kearton will be taking over my role with the support of our team at school and the Catholic Education Office staff, particularly our Principal Consultant, Kim Butler.

All are invited! St. Joseph's School. Monday 19th June 10:am.

BEECHWORTH BUS LINES

This email is being sent to all schools, with relevance to students who travel on the Beechworth-Chiltern route and get on/off at the current Woolshed Rd stop. I can provide the current update after being in communication with the manager of Regional Public Transport Hume (Department of Transport and Planning):

  • The current Woolshed Rd stop (as per the PM run) is suitable for continued use.
  • The current Woolshed Rd stop (as per the AM run) requires the bus driver to utilise their left-hand side mirror in order to note any oncoming traffic before departure. This is dangerous and prevents the bus from exiting the stop in a safe manner. As also reviewed by the Department of Transport and Planning, it has been determined to be unsafe and as such it is necessary to seek alternatives.
  • The initial alternative requested by the said manager was the stack site, located approx. 50 metres to the North-West. The request to use this location has been denied and buses are not permitted to use it.
  • The second alternative that has been proposed is located approx. 180 metres to the South-East from the current stop. Please see the attached image which identifies where this stop appears on Google Maps.
  • It is important to note that at present time the Department has the authority to close the current stop immediately and completely, due to safety issues, before an alternative is found. This would mean parents and caregivers would need to access one of the other stops already in use on the route in the morning.

To avoid the above, and the understandable inconvenience, I aim to seek feedback from schools and parents so that a decision can be made on the proposed new stop in order to have this organised before the Department makes that decision.

Looking forward to hearing you at your earliest convenience.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards

Manager

Daniel Carey
