An Overview of our Learning

Foundation students completed their wiggly worm project last week, gluing down their worms and drawing small details. They also completed a negative image artwork, painting interesting backgrounds and cutting out a silhouette to highlight a section. Each student made their own design choice, trying everything from hearts and stars to butterflies and handprints.

This week we started a new painting project, experimenting with our new glow in the dark paint. We are very excited to try these out, planning a special display at our art show at the end of the year. Next week we will incorporate printing, experimenting with a variety of materials to create patterns.

Year 1 and 2 finished up the last of their Impressionist paintings, adding small details and highlights. We then moved on to an exploration of our great country of Australia, unpacking what an acknowledgement of country means to them and what does it mean when Indigenous people say 'on Country'. We read the book, where is Galah, taking inspiration from Sally Morgan's illustrations to draw our own interpretation of Country. Students have been getting messy with oil pastels and pressing really hard to fill and blend colours, to make their work bright, bold and unique.

Year 3 and 4 students have been so busy over the last couple of weeks. We drew jellyfish on our analogous backgrounds, created out own brushes from sticks and leaves for abstract scratchy marks and started drawing magpies using oil pastels. Students practiced breaking up the magpie into simple shapes to help them get the right proportions. Lots of practice in their art book was the key before having a go on their background.

Year 5 and 6 have started constructing their Agamograph's, measuring and folding the mounts to create the support. Each Agamograph requires the viewer to interact with the work, viewing it from one angle and then moving themselves to reveal the second image.
