What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!
Curriculum Update
Foundation:
Over the past few lessons, the Foundation Students have concentrated on building their knowledge of the overarm throwing technique.
Initially the students focused on some individual practise before moving into small-based activities. Some of the activities the students participated in were Level Up, Indigenous Block throw and target practise. Each of these activities built on their skills and allowed students to extend their learning.
This week, the students commenced their three-week sporting program with Gecko Sports. The accredited coaches began with a lesson involving Fundamental movement skills (FMS). Students worked through a variety of stations to practise different movements with and without objects.
Year One/Two:
Over the past few lessons, the Level 1 Students have concentrated on building their knowledge of the overarm throwing technique.
Initially the students focused on some individual practise before moving into small-based activities. Some of the activities the students participated in were Level Up, Indigenous Block throw and target practise. Each of these activities built on their skills and allowed students to extend their learning.
Over the past few weeks, the Level 2 students have continued with their Athletics program. The students were exposed to some of the field events such as Discus and Shot Put. During these sessions students had multiple attempts at throwing to grow their level of confidence and build their knowledge around correct technique(s). One of the purposes of these lessons was to call upon the student's fine and gross motor skills to allow them to complete the set activity.
This week, the students commenced their three-week sporting program with Gecko Sports. The accredited coaches began with a lesson involving Fundamental movement skills (FMS). Students worked through a variety of stations to practise different movements with and without objects.

Mountain Bike Elective
Our select 3-6 students had their 2nd Mountain Bike session. During this session they continued to build their knowledge on how to undertake a bike check and ensure their helmet is fitted safely. Once the students completed this activity, they moved into practising some bike skills. The students learnt how to execute both the neutral and ready position while riding through an designated course. They also went on to practising braking and gear changing while riding through another course involving both up and downhill segments. A massive shout out to Simon Carlie for volunteering his time to work with the students and pass on his knowledge and expertise about mountain biking.
District Cross Country
On Friday 26th May a group of our Level 3-6 students represented our school at the District Cross Country Carnival at Crystalbrook Park. In tough conditions our students demonstrated amazing resilience and work-ethic to push through all the challenges they faced around the course. I could not be prouder of all their efforts.
We had some fantastic results with Jacob M, Jack C and Lillie D winning their respective races. Overall, we had fifteen students’ progress through to the Division stage on Tuesday 6th of June at Yarra Valley Racecourse. We wish these competitors the best of luck. GO USPS
