Equestrian
The Kinross Wolaroi School Equestrian Team is off to the Northwest Equestrian Expo in June with a strong team of 36 students ably lead by our Equestrian Captain, Callum Wald.
The Interschools event usually attracts over 600 riders and I’m sure that this year will see record numbers as every equestrian event has so far this year; everyone is keen to get out after very few competitions last year. The Kinross Wolaroi team consists of students from each year group and it is great to see some of the Year 12 students making their last trip to the Expo.
The program offers many different events, keeping the riders extremely busy over the five days – showjumping, dressage, eventing, team penning, polocrosse, team barrels, hacking, sporting, working horse challenge, pentathlon, team six bar and combine training. Thankfully we have a fantastic parental group that keeps the logistics of feeding, cleaning and keeping horses and riders on track.
Triathlon
NSW Academy Games Triathlon: Junior Women's (16-19 years)
Congratulations to Sophie Martin who has topped of a great tri season with 2 gold medal finishes at the NSW Academy Games triathlon over the weekend in the individual Junior Women’s (16-19 yrs) triathlon and the mixed teams event the following day.
The Academy Games is an annual gathering of the state’s Regional Academies of Sport (RASi) to celebrate the skill and development of their talented athletes, and this year hosted over 80 Academy competitors from 5 regional academies, plus the newly formed Rest of State Talent Academy (ROSTA).
Day 1 featured the individual draft legal heats and finals over a 200m swim/5.6km bike/1.5km run format. After a strong performance in the heats, Sophie Martin (ROSTA, Orange Tri Club) took out the Junior women’s A final with a blistering 6 minute run. Kailin Pople (ROSTA, Cronulla Tri Club) and Ella-Kate Hussein (WSAS, Hills Tri Club) rounded out the podium.Day 2 was the Mixed Relays with the ROSTA team (Kailin Pople, Jasper Sumsky, Sophie Martin and Hugh Thornhill) taking out gold in the Junior division.
